Mahabaleshwar has three very different seasons. From October to February it is cool, green-gold and clear — the best time for views. From March to May it is the classic summer escape: warm days, cool nights and big crowds. From June to September the monsoon arrives with some of the heaviest rainfall in India — dramatic, misty and beautiful, but many things close.
Strawberries run from roughly December to April. The Kaas Plateau flowers from roughly late August to early October.

Winter (October to February): the best all-rounder
After the monsoon the air is washed clean, the hills are still green and the valleys are sharp to the horizon. Days are pleasant for walking, nights cool to cold — pack a warm layer. Crowds are moderate except at Diwali and Christmas–New Year, when prices rise and you should book ahead. Strawberries start appearing in December.
Summer (March to May): the classic holiday season
This is when the plains are baking and Mahabaleshwar is a welcome escape. Expect warm days and cool evenings, hazier views and full hotels, especially from mid-April to early June when schools are on holiday. It is also the end of the strawberry season. Book rooms and weekend tours well in advance, and do the viewpoints early before the haze builds.
Monsoon (June to September): dramatic, wet and quiet
Mahabaleshwar is one of the wettest places in India, with most of its rain falling between June and September. Clouds sit on the plateau for days, the forests turn luminous green, and waterfalls pour off every cliff. It can be magical — but visibility at the viewpoints is often zero, boating may stop, trails are slippery and many hotels and shops close for the season. Ghat roads can be affected by landslides. If you go, stay somewhere open and well-reviewed, keep plans flexible, and enjoy the drive through Wai and Panchgani, which are drier.
Strawberry season
Mahabaleshwar strawberries are in the markets from about December, peak in February and March and fade by the end of April. That is when roadside stalls, farms and Mapro Garden are at their best.
Kaas Plateau flower season
The wildflowers on the Kaas Plateau usually appear from late August, peak in September and fade by early to mid-October. Entry is limited and must be booked online in advance.
Festivals and busy dates
- Mahashivratri (February or March) draws large crowds to the Mahabaleshwar temple.
- Diwali (October or November) is one of the busiest weeks of the year.
- Christmas to New Year brings full hotels and heavy traffic.
- Long weekends and the April–June school holidays fill the roads from Pune and Mumbai.
